My name is Professor Fred Huggins, DHH. But let me introduce myself properly. I was born on the 26th of June 1995 in Johannesburg, South Africa. I am a golden retriever and was born in the clinic at the Guide Dogs Association for the Blind.
I was taught how to be a Service Dog. The rigorous training took a year, but I was ready at the end of that year to help somebody who was disabled. I was taught how to pick things up, how to open doors and even how to fetch a cold drink from the fridge. Make life easier . I was ready for that. I was eager and young and bursting to face my new life. “Go out and serve with pride, my boy. Serve with honour and pride,” my birth mother advised on the night before I left on my life assignment. Yes, I was ready. And then I met Lauren.
